Science Studies Meet Climate Change: The Case of Controversies Surrounding Transnational Carbon Markets
（「気候変動と科学論：国境を超える炭素市場をとりまく論争から」）

発表概要：
Science and Technology Studies (STS) ought to be central to discussions on climate change as a hybrid social/material, science/politics, local/global entity, but contributions from the field have so far been scarce. In this presentation, based on a recent workshop on 'Science Studies Meet Climate Change' held in Copenhagen*, I sketch on overview of previous STS analytical approaches to climate change, highlighting some possible reasons for the relative neglect of the topic. Turning to a case study of controversies surrounding the construction of transnational carbon markets, I illustrate some analytical and practical potentials of certain STS approaches, particularly associated with actor-network theory and the so-called 'performativity of economics' thesis. While this approach has many merits, I argue that it still fails to pay sufficient attention to political practices, illustrated with reference to environmental NGOs attempting to engage and confront the construction of carbon markets.
